Cremation & Funeral Options in Texas

Lantern organizes local provider research, published cremation prices, and verified state-level information so families can compare options without treating a template price as a provider quote.

Texas markets

Houston, Austin, and San Antonio now have dedicated provider-level research. Dallas and Fort Worth keep their existing URLs while local evidence is developed.

Verified state guidance

Texas cremation paperwork

Texas Department of State Health Services guidance says a burial-transit permit is required when a body is cremated. Local registrars issue these permits, and the TxEVER process can allow the permit before full medical certification in specified circumstances.

DSHS also states that a signed or registered death certificate is not itself required before cremation when the required burial-transit permit has been issued.

This is consumer research, not legal advice. The licensed provider handling a case should confirm current requirements for the specific circumstances. Last reviewed 2026-10-02.

How to use Lantern

Compare the full offer, not one number

Direct-cremation prices can describe different packages. Check the provider's current General Price List and confirm transfer mileage, sheltering, crematory charges, containers or urns, permits, death certificates, cash advances, weight-related charges, and other circumstance-specific fees.
